The Ministry of Economic Affairs has granted Saxion University of Applied Sciences special subsidies for its project 'IPO goes China'. The department of industrial product design of Saxion University plans to use these funds for their international activities, aiming to further develop their insights into the Chinese market and industry. The Saxion team is undertaking this project together with the following project partners: the Industrial Design Centre and Indes, a company specializing in industrial product development agency.

The planned activities include knowledge exchange with international companies and universities, for example through arranging guest lecturer placements. In addition, the team is setting up an international project week together with their Chinese colleagues, during which students and professors work on orders from the professional industry.

Project leader Marike Lammers: "In view of the rapid developments in China’s design market, we feel it is highly important to broaden our insight in the Chinese potential and knowledge of the market. Even though the Chinese industry still focuses very strongly on production and optimizing, there is a clear and urgent need for innovative development in the design area. It is exactly there that we see promising opportunities for (future) Dutch designers and developers, who bring a wealth of international experience to the Chinese design market."

For Saxion students it will mean interesting opportunities for familiarizing themselves with China through apprenticeships and graduation projects. "With international experience you not only expand your knowledge but it also gives you a great start to your future career." The project team has recently returned from a visit to China, where they kicked off their project with visits to Dutch designer firms and colleagues at Chinese universities.
