Hello everyone, I am very proud to be given the opportunity to express my feelings and emotions when I studied in Saxion University of Applied Science. I am an exchange student from Beijing University of Technology, China to Saxion University in Deventer, the Netherlands in Autumn 2005. It was my first time to study abroad, I was quite excited when I arrived at the Schiphol Airport, but I was also very nervous because I really didn't know where I was. To make things even worse, I had to learn how to get a train ticket for Deventer by myself at that moment. However, the Dutch people were very friendly and helpful for foreigners who needed their help. This is my the biggest impression for Dutch people. Anyway, I found the way to Deventer at last, and got familiar with this small, but nice European town.
This one year experience at Saxion University was unique and excellent!
Thereafter, all courses and lectures started. There was a significant difference between education in China and the Netherlands. At the beginning, I was always lost during lectures and seminars, I didn't know what other students were talking about. However, with the time flies, I gradually got some experiences and the right way to study, the right way to adapt for new circumstances. I felt that education in China paid so much attention to theoretical analysis, while education in EU countries concentrates on practical skills. Students should learn how to take the necessary knowledge that they acquired into practice. I experienced the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), Water Magement and some other interesting projects, which gave me a more efficient alternative to acquire new knowledges, which must come in handy for my future study as well as career.
Finally, I also would like to the Dutch culture perspective. Parties are the best option to know the Dutch cultures. I had experienced Christmas party, Allhallowmas party, etc. and I also travelled around with my Dutch classmates together. From all of these activities, I could say that Dutch people are quite hospitable and energetic. They really like to relax and enjoy lives together with their friends. Sometimes they could also become good listeners, to carefully know your mood and emotions and try to help you out of troubles! In a word, Dutch people are all kind friends who worth to believe in. To sum up, the one year's full time study in Saxion University was unique and excellent, from which I could benefits a lot for my future lives.
