Entry Requirements
Here you can find the general entry requirements to Saxion's courses. Please note that there can be additional requirements for the course you want to apply for. Check the "programme details":/programmes/ for specific requirements!
General
For all Saxion pathways the following general entry requirements are necessary:
- The student must demonstrate that they have the ability, motivation and determination to successfully complete the course;
- The student must be admissible to Higher Education through a diploma of secondary education/high school diploma with good results such as for Dutch students VWO, HAVO or MBO and for foreign students diplomas which are equivalent to e.g. the German Abitur (algemeine Hochschulreife), the British GCE A-levels or (I) GCSE grades A, B or C, the French Baccalaureat or the American High School (top stream or plus 1 year's college);
- The student must have sufficient English language skills for the specific course.
The students’ qualifications will be assessed by the Admission Officer of the specific Course on the basis of provided Diplomas, Curriculum Vitae, a letter of motivation and if necessary an Intake Interview.
English language proficiency
For Both Bachelor and Master Courses the entry requirement is an Academic IELTS of 6.0 or an equivalent in another language test (TOEFL 550, etc.).

Specific requirements
Next to the general entry requirements, which apply to all students, for each level of entrance specific requirements are needed.
Entrance to the first year of the 4-year Bachelor Courses
English requirements are Academic IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550 or similar English language qualification.
Entrance to the final year Bachelors
- Having completed three years of higher education in the discipline of further study.
- Or a Bachelors Degree in any branch of study.
The students’ qualifications will be assessed by the Admission Officer of the specific Course on the basis of provided Diplomas, Curriculum Vitae, a letter of motivation and if necessary an Intake Interview.
Entrance to our Preparatory Courses
Prospective students are required to apply for their future four-year course, final-year or Masters programme at the same time they seek entry to the Preparatory courses. The reason for this is to ascertain if they have the proper previous education for their intended future studies.
Preparatory Year
It is essential that prospective students have already reached a score of IELTS 5.0 so that the starting level is in line with the level (IELTS 6.0) they have to achieve to get admission to courses of higher education.
Preparatory Semester
It is essential that prospective students have already reached a score of IELTS 5.5 so that the starting level is in line with the level (IELTS 6.0) they have to achieve to get admission to courses of higher education.
Preparatory Short Track
It is essential that prospective students have already reached a score of IELTS 5.5 (minimum score for listening and speaking 5.0) so that the starting level is in line with the level (IELTS 6.0) they have to achieve to get admission to courses of higher education.
Specific requirements for European students
To enter our Bachelor and Master courses, an IELTS 6.0 (or comparable level of English proficiency) is necessary. Students can prove their English language proficiency by submitting a validated statement from their former school or university, showing that the previous education was taught in English or that the English language was part of the school curriculum (indicating the number of years and including a list of marks).
