Introduction
Is global thinking just right for you? Would you like to play a part in the world of international economics or do you just think it is interesting to study in an international group? Then think about studying International Finance and Accounting at the Saxion University of Applied Sciences.
This is a new course of English-language studies at a University which has won its spurs internationally with high-profile education. Typical for our studies is the immediate relation between theory and practical experience. The University is located in the east of the Netherlands.
The studies of International Finance and Accounting form an excellent basis for a career in business or public services in your home country or far abroad. You can also go on studying for your Master’s at a Dutch or foreign university.
Course content
The basics
Saxion offers you a four-year study programme. In the foundation year, we work primarily on basic knowledge, which you will need as a financial specialist. There are no boundaries. From the second year on, we will go more deeply into the matter of finances. We will teach you to look at economic relations, financial markets, currency markets, investments, risk management, marketing and international laws and rules in the field of economics, finance and accounting, from an international perspective. Subjects such as general economics, financial management, management accounting and control and management information systems will make sure that your level of general economic knowledge is raised as well.
Professionalization
In the third year you will get a more profound knowledge in the subjects of accounting, auditing and research skills. In your elective course, you will then concentrate on a sub-topic of your choice. You can then choose to either study a specific topic in-depth, or broaden your range of courses. If you choose the in-depth study, we offer minors, such as human resource accounting, project management or finance. In case you rather want to broaden your knowledge, you can spend half a year outside your direct discipline and study e.g. marketing or hospitality business. Saxion offers many possibilities for this as well. You can also take a course at another University of Applied Sciences.
Soft skills
Only attaining knowledge is not enough. The internationally operating financial specialist is expected to know how to share this knowledge with others and use this knowledge in the world. Therefore, we train your soft skills, such as communication, management skills, ethics, project-based working and working in international themes, for four years. Subjects such as sociology and cultural anthropology and human resource management fit in well.
Internship and graduation
In the third year of your studies it is time to deploy your theoretical knowledge in an international, practical environment. You will get to know this in your internship. You continue this by doing your graduation research project in the fourth year. These two periods both take half a year and you will spend this time in a country other than your home country.
Internship and graduation placements can be found with banks, governments, accountants and multinationals. Saxion will facilitate you in finding a good placement, but we also challenge you to find a project which connects with your international ambitions.
Coaching
During your studies, you don’t have to do it all by yourself. A coach will help you find your way in the Netherlands and in our Academy. He or she will also supervise you in making sure you are successful in your studies and he/she will take a look at your future career prospects together with you. In your work in the project groups and during your internship you are coached on content as well as on the process.
Requirements
- Minimum of TOEFL 550, IELTS 6 or similar English language qualification.
Also check our general entry requirements.
Career prospects
When you have graduated, you hold the title of Bachelor of Business Administration. This will give you an excellent entrance on the international labour market: as a policy advisor with the European Union, at a bank in Hamburg, London or Paris, financial specialist for a multinational company. It may all well be written on your business card later on. But our studies give you great job opportunities in your own country as well.
Would you like to study on? That is possible too. You are welcome to do your Masters’ in business administration or finance and accounting at almost every university in and outside Europe.
