Organisations are clustering living spaces on Roomspot

Reading time Minutes

On February 6th of 2018, the Enschede municipality, housing authority De Veste (housing authority), Stichting Jongeren Huisvesting Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences and University of Twente launched Roomspot, an online platform.

Roomspot is a new web portal that offers a complete and reliable overview of rooms and living space in Twente, the region surrounding Enschede.

Finding accommodation

Previously, young people and students had to register on various websites in order to be considered for a place to live in Twente. This is now a thing of the past.

Ruud Mittendorff, director-administrator of SJHT explains: "The housing supply was highly fragmented in this region, which made the search for accommodation difficult for young people. We wanted to simplify this search by collecting available housing from different providers in one central location. With the go-live of Roomspot, this dream has now become reality. And we are very proud of that!"

Characteristics of Roomspot

Available rooms, studios and apartments are placed on the site by SJHT and the housing authority on a daily basis. The website is bilingual (in Dutch and in English) so it is also easy for international students to find a place to live.

Registration for the website is free. Those who are looking for a home can create their own search profile so they can immediately check suitable accommodations.

Saxion Housing for international students

For all our first year students from outside the EU/EEA, Saxion arranges housing  for the duration of one year. We encourage our European students to find their own accommodation.

However, we do offer the possibility to reserve a room through Saxion, depending on the availability. At some point, all of our international students have to find accommodation by themselves. Roomspot should make this considerably easier for them to do so.

Winning a room make-over

With an online campaign, Roomspot summons young people to spread the new name through Facebook or Instagram with hashtag #Roomspotactie.

People who participate in this campaign have the chance to win a make-over for their room, worth € 1,500.-.
