Basic Communication Skills 1 is the first introduction to the discipline of interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication can be seen as ‘the verbal and non-verbal interaction between two interdependent people (sometimes more)’. (DeVito, 2013) This course will focus on the understanding of the interpersonal communication process, increasing students self-awareness with regards to interpersonal communication and techniques that will help students to communicate with others more effectively. In order to increase self-awareness students will learn how to reflect regarding the four steps in experiential learning:  
• Step 1: Facts
• Step 2: Feelings
• Step 3: Findings
• Step 4: Futures

Test criteria

The course will be evaluated by a written personal portfolio consisting of the assignments and reflection questions that need to be worked out after each tutorial.
