In this course we will focus on communication skills and conversation models that you will come across as an HR professional. For example in:

  • a selection interview
  • an introduction meeting
  • setting work goals
  • a performance appraisal
  • a disciplinary interview
  • breaking bad-news

In some of these settings you might have to deal with strong emotions and resistance.

This course will focus on:

  • Increasing your analysing skills regarding the context of the conversation to be held by means of the PAHR-model
  • Developing your communication skills and the use of conversation models
  • The understanding of your role in conversations in an HR environment

Learning goals

At the end of this course students:

1. Are able to analyse the context of a conversation to be held by means of the PAHR model. This means:

  • Analysing the situation in terms of the key issues and interests of both parties
  • Setting goals for the conversation to be held in terms of content and process
  • Deciding which degree of input and control is appropriate regarding the situation. (Support your client to use ICR vs. taking ICP as HR-professional). (see PAHR model for details).
  • Making a motivated choice for the role of the PAHR model that best suits the situation.

2. Are able to structure the conversation to reach the set goal(s)

3. Are able to conduct the conversation leading towards the set goal(s) using (an) effective role, behaviour and interventions where necessary.

4. Are able to evaluate the conversation on effectiveness regarding outcomes of the goals set and the effect of the role, behaviour and interventions chosen.

5. Are able to:

  • Define strengths and weaknesses regarding their conversation skills
  • Set clear goals for developing their role in effective conversations
