By completing the thesis successfully, students show that they are able to solve a real-world issue or problem in an authentic vocational situation independently and adequately and that they are ready to start working in the professional IHRM field. The thesis is the last test of competence within the degree programme. The required competences at bachelor’s level consist of completing the thesis, the internship and the organisational analysis.

Learning goals

Report:

  • Students are able to write a problem analysis (including reasoning and objective).
  • Students are able to use relevant and current theoretical arguments in order to arrive at a conceptual model that leads back to the main and sub-questions.
  • Students show ability to use transparent validation of research and development steps (methodology, target audience, procedure, operationalisation, analysis and reflection on quality of set-up)
  • Students are able to show correct, non-biased and independent representation of collected material or interventions 
  • Students are able to reach conclusions that answer the research question and link up to the research objective.  Critical reflection on strengths and weaknesses of the thesis.
  • The student shows the ability to make recommendations/advice or product (including advice for implementation)
  • The student is able to write a report that is clear and has a logical structure. There is coherence within and between the various parts leading to a narrative that is easy to follow. The report structured in such a way that the professional product is reproducible.
  • The student shows professionalism: Independent, autonomous, critical and vision.

Interview:

  • The student is able to hold an objective, original and persuasive presentation which is appealing and adds value.
  • The student shows thorough command of subject material; has the ability to see relationships between relevant theories and social developments 
  • The student answers the research questions: adequate, to the point and well supported.
  • Students show reflective skills: Insight into strengths and weaknesses of research and/or a professional product and using this information as a basis to formulate a strategy for improvement.
  • Students show vision on the IHRM profession and their own role within the IHRM professional field.
  • Insight into own career prospects and own development in the IHRM professional field both now and in the future.
