Business English 3 focuses on writing and oral skills of C1 level.1) For the writing part, the young professionals need to gain a deep understanding of the current news as they affect individuals, groups, organisations and businesses across the world. This part of the module trains students to select, read, understand and communicate current events and relate these to developments in the tourism/hotel industry. Students present news issues, lead discussions and write a news issue portfolio in which they reflect on relevant current events. 2) The tourism/hotel industry involves complex interactions among people and businesses who each have their own interests in tourist/hotel destinations. It works if they come together and discuss their common ground and ideas to creative positive change for all. An effective instrument to support this process is the multi stakeholder dialogue, in which students are trained to set up and engage in such an integral dialogue.

Learning goals

The Business English 3 trains the student to select, read, understand and communicate current news events and relate these to the developments in the tourism/hotel industry. Moreover, the student analyses complex relevant issues – with potentially conflicting interests of various stakeholders and different perspectives. These result in a reflective news issues portfolio and the engagement in a ‘multi-stakeholder dialogue’. For both, students are trained to perform on the C1 level of the CEFR.
