The course provides an introduction in the world of energy and particular electrical energy. The emphasis of the course is on the modelling of transmission- and distribution networks. Students explore the alternatives for generation of electrical energy. The course provides the background knowledge required for working with transport network simulation software packages.

- Generation of electrical energy (coal, hydrogen, natural gas, sun, water, etc.) - Power and power factor calculations in single phase and three phase power - Losses in power distribution systems - Network calculations for balanced and unbalanced, star- and delta connected, ABC and CBA sequence three phase networks - The per unit system representation - Single line equivalent diagrams - Numeric solving of non-linear equations (in power flow calculations) - Load flow calculations - Short circuit calculations (symmetrical)
