The module Textiles 4 consists of two modules:
Smart textiles
Advanced textile sciences
The workload for this module is 42 hours.
Smart textiles The aim of this module is to teach students about smart systems, finishes/fibres, electronics and sensors, and how they are used in textile products. Students will learn the principles of systems engineering, and be able to use this when designing complex systems for textiles. By the end of this module, students will be able to apply their smart textiles knowledge and skills to the processes involved in creating textile products.
Advanced textile sciences By the end of this module, students will have an understanding of several advanced textile sciences. They will be able to apply this knowledge to the processes involved in creating textile products. This module will focus on the surface modification of polymers in creating added value for functional textiles, and on biocatalyst green production methods and textile chemistry and mechanics. Textile chemistry is about surface modification, and cleaning and finishing processes. This module will also look at how enzymes are used in textile processes, both in the present and in the future.
