The domain of software engineering is broad, and many specializations are possible. To properly train a student, expertise within a field is required. It is therefore difficult to provide all possible specializations. To accommodate this, we include the possibility of an open specialisation within the ICT:SE curriculum. For the Saxion provided specialization the specialistic knowledge and skills are present in the lecturers of the specialization. For the open specialization,  however, an external expert in the form of a PhD candidate needs to be found which acts as a coach for the student following the specialization.  Some of the possible specializations we see are:

  • Information retrieval: developing models and tools to investigate and gather data resources, e.g., multimodal searching in databases and interpretation of unstructured data.
  • Cybersecurity: students learn about security of networks and cloud-based software and, methods, architectures, and processes to guarantee security of software.

Learning goals

  • Perform research and present a novel solution to a problem within a specific field of software engineering requiring specialistic knowledge.
  • Manage the process of designing a proof of concept or solution which requires researching several solutions or partial solutions.
  • Advise on further development and/or application of the proposed solution.
