In Year 1 of the programme, there are three courses in basic skill development. The first course covers the basics of effective interpersonal communication in general and focuses on self-awareness and the students' reflection on their own basic communicating skills.

Basic Communication Skills 2 focuses on leading an effective dialogue and information gathering whilst Basic Communication Skills 3 focuses on presentation skills

Learning goals

Final Goal

This course will focus on the understanding of the interpersonal communication process, increasing student self-awareness with regard to presentation skills.

At the end of this course, students are able to:

  • Prepare for a presentation
  • Collect and organise presentation material 
  • Structure a presentation into an introduction, a body and a conclusion, using a core statement
  • Use visual aids effectively
  • Deliver both an informative and a persuasive presentation 
  • Reflect on their own behaviour regarding presentation skills
