This course gives students a first introduction to the integration of the individual and group level into the organisational systems level by using an integrated job evaluation and rewards system approach.

The focus in this course is that students will learn how to link personal goals and motivation through TRS (TOTAL REWARD SYSTEM) with organisational goals, strategy and objectives. This means that students will be asked to firstly determine the organisational goals and current situation concrete. Secondly, to evaluate the organisational structure and job specifications in order to be able to assess the specific individual contribution to these organisational goals. Thirdly, to reward these various individual and group contributions by setting up a reward system on both individual and group levels. Fourthly and finally, to incorporate career paths as part of the TRS approach, in order for the organisation to be able to attract, develop and maintain their critical workforce and for the employees to have a career; this making rewards and compensation and benefits (C&B) an integrated and important part of the HRM business tool kit.

After this course, students will have a better understanding of:

  • Motivational theory and the concrete discrepancy between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation 
  • Job evaluation and specific contribution to goals set by the organisation 
  • Job classification and how to set up a reward system based upon this classification 
  • The importance of a good, fair and well-structured reward system 
  • The important role of good communication herein 

Students will develop this knowledge and insight by answering questions based on literature and by solving a case. These two parts combined make the final report.
