On February 9th of 2018, an agreement for the construction of student accommodation was signed by LIFE and Saxion. The Belgian company will convert old nursing rooms of the former hospital complex at the Ariënsplein in Enschede into student rooms.

The agreement is signed by the new CEO of LIFE, Toon Haverals and Anka Mulder, President of the Executive Board of Saxion.

110 rooms for international students

Saxion will rent 110 shared rooms for its international students for a minimum period of eight years. In groups of approximately six students, they each have their own room of at least 12 m2 and they will share a kitchen as well as the sanitary facilities. The new rooms will replace the other accommodations that are rented all across the city at the moment.

In addition to the rooms for Saxion, approximately 150 independent student rooms will become available for the free market at the Ariënsplein. All rooms are accessible from the centre of the Ariënsplein complex with its main entrance at the Ariënsplein.

Central provisions and facilities

The students will also be able to use all central provisions in the complex at a later stage. For instance, a hair salon, sports facilities, bicycle repair shop, pool hall and a place to have a cup of coffee. The building is over 48,000mof which 3,600m2  are reserved for the Saxion students' rooms.

The demolition work of the inner walls has already been completed and rebuilding has started. From August 15th 2018, the first students will move into their new rooms.
