06-04-2021 Corona-update: Use of external locations by further opening of the university
As soon as the cabinet decides to ease restrictions on higher education, then Saxion is ready to offer more educational activities on location. To do this we are, among other things, going to make use of external locations including the Deventer Schouwburg, the Willem Wilmink-theatre and the Grolsch Vest
The cabinet aims to ensure that students can have on-site education one day a week when the situation permits. Behind the scenes we are working hard on plans to ensure that every student will soon be able to come on-site to study one day a week. We are making this possible by also using external locations. We are currently looking at which types of education are best suited to these locations. In the education of, for example, the international study programmes, online accessibility for international students who still reside in their home country remains an important starting point.
After the summer
We are also busy preparing the timetables for term 1 of the new academic year. In doing so we are taking account of 2 possible scenarios: a 100% scenario where we no longer have to take account of corona measures and a 50% scenario, where we still have to take into account, for example, 1.5 metre social distancing and group size. We can then scale up or down as required.
We hope that we will have more information about the most-likely timetable after the next press conference.
Self-testing
Coinciding with the further opening of the university the government is making self-tests available to students and staff. These are tests that you can do yourself and get an instant result. The aim of these is to increase safety at all locations. We want to facilitate self-tests, but not make them compulsory. You will receive more information about this in a later update.
Timetables adapted to lockdown extension and curfew
Class and exam timetables up to and including 20 April have been adjusted in accordance with the extended lockdown and curfew. The current exceptions to lockdown are practical education and exams that may still take place on location. Students and staff may also still study or work on location in Enschede and Deventer in specific cases.
Changes in corona regulations in Germany
Germany has tightened its corona rules for travel to the Netherlands from Tuesday, 6 April, 2021. If you live in Germany and study or work in the Netherlands then the new altered regulations apply. Under the heading 'corona measures in Germany' you can find links to further information.
