Reading time: Minutes

What is it like to study International Finance and Accounting in the Netherlands? For Kyryl, a student from Ukraine at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, it means combining financial knowledge with practical experience, international perspectives and preparation for a career in finance.

Why study International Finance and Accounting at Saxion?

Kyryl chose Saxion because of its practical approach to education and its focus on preparing students for the professional world: “I chose Saxion for its practical, hands-on approach to education and reputation in preparing students for the professional world.”

During the International Finance and Accounting programme, Kyryl has developed his knowledge in areas such as advanced auditing, financial analysis and international financial management. The programme also gives students opportunities to work on real-world projects and explore relevant minors.

For Kyryl, this practical approach is one of the most valuable parts of studying finance and accounting at Saxion: “What I cherish most about my study programme is the real-world projects and staying updated on industry trends that ensure relevance and preparedness for the dynamic finance and accounting sector.”

Developing skills for a career in finance

Studying International Finance and Accounting is not only about learning financial theory. Students also develop skills they can use in their future careers.

For Kyryl, managing several projects and deadlines has been one of the more challenging parts of his studies. At the same time, these challenges have helped him become better at time management and working with others.

“It taught me effective time management and enhanced collaboration skills within a team.”

By combining theoretical knowledge with practical projects, Kyryl is building a strong foundation for his future in the international finance sector.

Living and studying in the Netherlands

Moving from Ukraine to the Netherlands also gave Kyryl the opportunity to experience a new culture and way of life. One of the things that surprised him most was the efficiency of public transportation and how widely English is used in everyday life.

He also discovered the Dutch communication style, which he describes as direct. Adapting to this way of communicating became part of his experience of living and studying in the Netherlands.

Kyryl lives in Enschede, a student city in the east of the Netherlands. Outside his studies, he enjoys exploring the city's cultural scene and spending time in its parks. The University of Twente campus and Volkspark are among his favourite places.

Starting a career in financial consulting

After completing his studies, Kyryl hopes to build a career in financial consulting. He wants to use his knowledge of auditing and financial analysis to contribute to strategic financial decision-making within organisations.

His experience at Saxion is helping him prepare for that next step by combining finance and accounting knowledge with practical projects, teamwork and an international study experience.

For Kyryl, studying International Finance and Accounting at Saxion is not just about learning how finance works. It is about gaining the practical skills and international experience needed to build a career in the financial sector.
