Bouwtex

‘Renovations and repurposing of building can be much smarter’. That is the statement of companies who are involved with the project Bouwtex. The current methods are drastic, irreversible and demand a (very) big use of materials.

Renovations and repurposing of building can be much smarter!

Textiel met waterdruppels

This makes the transformation of buildings expensive and time-consuming, and also brings unnecessary bad impact on the environment. That is why the companies who collaborate on Bouwtex want to research if with textile other, more lightweight and flexible, solutions are possible.

Textile for building improvement

Textiles are used in different building applications and have proven that it can bring added value to buildings.  For example, strengthening constructions (canvas), improving building performance (isolation value, acoustics) and increasing the experience value (visual, shape).

Textile is light in weight, easy to shape, strong, isolating, moisturizing and can be well provided with extra functions.

We will use the potential of textile for building improvement in the demand for inexpensive and fast transformation of real estate. Textile is light in weight, easy to shape, strong, isolating, moisturizing and can be well provided with extra functions. Especially in areas with earthquakes and areas with a (temperamental) demand for flexible layout of spaces can textile have an important value.

Goals Bouwtex

The goal of the project is to come up with four applicable prototypes within a period of two years for the following ideas:

  • The constructional strengthening of existing external walls with textile
  • The realisation of flexible inner walls with the use of textile

To accomplish these goals we research how we can use textiles to strengthen outer walls of buildings and construct light and flexible inner walls.

Participants

The Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, Saxion, textile- and construction companies are taking on the challenge, together with architects and owners of real estate. The four prototypes can be further developed into marketable products by associated partners. Besides that, the prototypes offer a casuistry for education programs in the fields of textile and engineering/architecture/construction.

Duration

Het project Bouwtex loopt van oktober 2017 tot en met september 2019.
