Gerecycled textiel

Dr. ing. Gerrit Bouwhuis

Dr. Eng. Gerrit Bouwhuis (1955) studied Business Studies Textiles at the former HTS at Enschede. This study course was the forerunner of the current textile study course Fashion & Textile Management. After his graduation in 1982 he started his career in the textile industry, where initially the functions were commercially tinted.

Gradually technology became an increasingly important aspect. During a period of more than 10 years he worked as interim manager at various textile firms. From 2001 to mid-2006 Bouwhuis worked as operations manager at TenCate Advanced Textiles. In this function he came in contact with academic- and industrial research, making R&D an increasingly important area of attention. In 2006 started Bouwhuis his employment at Saxion. In that year he also started with the preparations of his PhD research at the University of Twente into the bio-catalytic pre-treatment of cotton. On the 10th of march 2011 his promotion was a fact.

At Saxion, Bouwhuis provides education for 40% of his time within the academy of Creative Technology. In addition, as a member of the Sustainable & Functional Textiles research group, he carries out various research activities. Since 2013 he also fulfils the function of associate lector Sustainable & Functional Textiles, in which his research focuses on sustainability.
