The operational internship is a form of experiential learning during Main Phase 1 and aims to enable a student to gain relevant work experience in the hospitality business at an operational/tactical level with a minimum of 90 working days. During this operational internship, the student is part of a dynamic practical environment and participates (pro)actively in professionally authentic role(s) and assignments. The student sometimes operates independently, but often under the supervision of a company coach, and learns from professionals and the feedback he receives from them. The student is coached in this learning process by a Saxion coach and is part of a peer group of practical interns during the operational internship.

Learning goals

Purpose of the experiential learning during the operational internship: execute, analyze and evaluate the operational process as a translation of tactical/strategic choices of the company.In addition, during the operational internship the student develops specific professional skills relevant to the role in the company and sets personal and professional learning goals that are important to the student.  At the end of the internship the student reflects to what extent and in what way the learning goals have been achieved. The student proves the results of the practical learning through three exams, the first of which is formative.
