Learning goals

The student is familiar with the basics of chemistry (the periodic table, molecular structures, electronegativity and intra/intermolecular forces) and knows how to apply these basic concepts. The student is able to identify both natural and synthetic polymers and can analyse and compare their material properties, taking sustainability into account. The student is able to recount various pre-treatments for different textile materials, and can discuss the impact these pre-treatments have on the environment. The student is able to analyse and use pre-treatment processes and machines for specific textile and product properties, and is able to discuss their impact on the environment. The student understands and knows how to apply the underlying principles of colour perception, colour mixing, colour models and textile colour measurements. The student understands the chemistry of dyes and is able to classify and use dyes based on the different textile fibres. The student is able to specify how external dyes impact the environment.
