In the module The Art of Visualisation we discuss visualising data. Instead of focusing on more traditional graphs and business dashboards, the Art of Visualisation helps students understand the basic principles of visualisation, by discussing visualisation theories and through experimentation.
Data is increasing in volume, variety and velocity, and we need new ways to make sense of this data. Initiatives like Morph by Google show that experimenting is a valid approach to finding new ways to visualise data.
Experimentation and creative ideas are wonderful, but methods and tools are useful to guide the process, and to check if a suggested solution fits the needs of the audience and whether or not it fulfils its promises. These tools will also help improve understanding and reiterate ideas and implementation.
