The career option Entrepreneurship offers you the skills to influence society with the products or services you offer, to make society a more beautiful and better place. This minor offers the unique opportunity to develop your own ideas - whether it's for a technological innovation, a plan for a totally new target group, or a new business model - and put it into practice as a startup company. Maybe you have an entrepreneurial spirit, but no particular ideas or plans yet? If that is the case, learning the value of ideas, how to spot opportunities, and working with others on a startup company are good ways to apply your entrepreneurial attitude in practice. But our ambitions for this minor don't stop there: where possible, you can grow your startup into a proper company with big ambitions, for instance by building a company that has a global presence. This minor offers an adventure within your degree programme: a rare opportunity! This minor is also open to students who have already set up their own company, and would like to work on expanding and growing their existing business. Concluding this minor offers the option to graduate on a project related to your own business.
During the minor, you do a number of assessments to earn credits. You get to actually work on your own company, which means you set your own working hours too (between 8am and 8pm, as these are the opening hours of the business incubator you'll be working at). As a budding entrepreneur, you will work roughly 40 hours a week, which includes lectures, mentoring etc.
The minor consists of a range of activities, e.g. guest lectures, meetings with mentors, workshops, network gatherings, Startup Café etc. This minor includes plenty of time and space for extracurricular activities, like motivational sessions and readings. This is all aimed at helping you excel in your own startup business. And you will be out on the road a lot; because many of your customers will be found outside of Saxion. While there is a lot of freedom offered in this minor, we do expect you to attend the scheduled mentor meetings, the tutorials and guest lectures, and regular participation in the drop-in consultation sessions.
