Step into the world of Industrial Automation where you'll master the integration of production processes and systems. Our minor focuses on four main areas: Processes, Components, Information, and Integration. You'll gain the necessary skills to design solutions by  choosing technologies. All done by making the right decisions for choosing components and connecting machines and systems.

Key Competencies You Will Develop

  • Practical Implementation: Apply theory in hands-on projects using industrial robots, PLCs and SCADA.

  • System Integration: Automate processes by integrating sensors, actuators, PLC’s, vision, robots and SCADA. Having all working together.

  • Solution Design: Develop a system by choosing the correct processes, assembly order, design of grippers and tooling.

  • Safety knowledge: Know what safety in an industrial environment is about, and make your engineering choices in a substantiated manner.

You will be able to analyze processes, define interfaces between parts of the process and automation layers, and advise the customer and other stakeholders about different solutions. Next to the theoretical approach you will learn how to integrate components and systems, create and implement a working solution, draw conclusions about the result and advise about improvements for an automated process.

The combination of the increase of information technology and the shortage of personnel has given rise to the need of automating physical processes. The use of information in machines and factories results in more complex production processes. Therefor the knowledge on how to connect machines and systems, analyze processes, choose technology and ability to implement the most suitable solutions has become complex, important and a highly values skill.

Three theoretical modules in this minor of 5 EC each will provide theoretical background for implementing the solution for the automation problem. The project revolves around an automation problem and will start with a 5EC in size the first quarter and will be 10EC in the second quarter.

  • Components and Robotic Systems (5 EC)
  • Connectivity (5 EC)
  • Process and Safety (5 EC)
  • Project Industrial Automation (15 EC)

  • Selection & dimensioning of actuators
