Studium Generale: What if a large-scale disruption is no longer a coincidence?
Registration is required. This programme is already full. Therefore, registration puts you on the waiting list.
What if a conflict does not begin with tanks at the border, but with a drone disrupting air traffic, an attack on the payment system or a data cable on the seabed?
During this programme, journalist Huib Modderkolk takes us into the world of (hybrid) threats from Russia and other major powers. What do the recent escalations and acts of sabotage mean for the Netherlands and Europe? Are we at war? And what do concerned intelligence services know that we do not? Together, we’ll explore the vulnerabilities of our critical infrastructure: from drinking water to the electricity grid, data centres and telecoms networks.
Together with defense analyst Michelle Haas, we will then look ahead using concrete examples. Is more funding for defense and the return of compulsory military service the solution, or is war rhetoric actually part of the problem? How do we put a vague concept such as a ‘resilient society’ into practice, and what does that require in terms of preparedness from individuals and organisations? Can we learn from countries that have been preparing for this for much longer?
Come along, listen, ask your questions and make up your own mind!
