A group of 45 international students worked on a number of issues posed by SMEs during the third edition of the Challenge Day. The team with the best solution won a prize of €1,000.-

The winners Ushosee Roy (University of Twente), Humaid Alkalbani (Saxion), Hamed Moosa (Saxion), Ahmend Al Kathiri (Saxion) and Rahul Mondekkottil (University of Twente) came up with a solution for the company Hoppmann, producer of cutting-edge automation techniques.

The companies Mobility4Zero, ProptechPodium, Dealerdirect, Hoppmann, Mochadochs, Zolemba and GloBLD not only participated in the Challenge day because of the solutions they were offered for the cases they contributed, but also because of the opportunity to meet future employees. "It is a beautiful challenge to have a part in this. We did not know that there were so many international students attending Saxion, Windesheim and the University of Twente and that the Dutch students are also internationally so well-oriented. They can deliver a tremendous contribution to our business given our current explorations abroad. They can in the future deliver a tremendous contribution to our business given our current explorations abroad. Today, we were introduced to dozens of students and with some of them we would like to get better acquainted.", says one of the entrepreneurs.

Most international students are not used to any involvement of companies in their education. The fact that they are offered this opportunity during their studies at Saxion, Windesheim and the University of Twente is the reason to register for the Challenge Day.

“The Challenge day was a really energetic event filled with lot of creativity and new ideas. This event really helped us to boost our creative potential. Since the problem assigned to us was a real problem for Hoppmann, we were really happy that we could come up with an innovative solution for them, so that they could save some energy and improve the quality of their product using a basic principle called electrostatic induction. We wish we could be part of more and more such programs in the future”, says Rahul

International student valuable for the labour market.

International students who continue to work in the Netherlands after their graduation are a golden opportunity for the region. On the one hand, they bring experience and a network from their country of origin and on the other hand, they have knowledge about doing business in the Netherlands and the Dutch culture. It is therefore important to commit these international students to the region. The Saxion Challenge Day is one of the initiatives where education and the business community act together to attract international students for a career in the Eastern part of the Netherlands. The Saxion Challenge Day was made possible in part with the support of GO4EXPORT.
