Update 19: No adjustments situation Saxion
Yesterday the government announced that the current measures for higher education will be continued until at least 20 May. The situation therefore remains unchanged for Saxion.
This means that nothing changes compared to the previous decisions. For example, online education will continue until 1 June 2020, the planned physical exams will continue online as much as possible and students and employees (subject to a few exceptions) will continue to study and work from home for the time being.
“Of course, the impact of the corona measures on working, studying and researching at home remains great,” says Anka Mulder, President of the Executive Board. “We understand that a longer period of working online is a heavy burden for everyone who has been trying to adapt to the ‘new normal’ to the best of their abilities. We hope that the opening of primary schools and childcare from 11 May will at least bring relief to the home situation for our employees with young children. And for everyone: hold on a little longer. We are in this together and we admire your great flexibility and stamina. Stay healthy!"
Education (activities) in a 1,5 meter society
In addition, Saxion continues to prepare for any extension of this period - for online education - to the end of the academic year. And as a university of applied sciences, we are also examining which adjustments are necessary to provide education in a 1,5 meter society.
This also applies to the introduction week (HOI) for our new students who are being filled in differently now that the government has announced yesterday that events with a permit and notification obligation may not take place until 1 September this year. We are currently exploring in which alternative form we can offer this event, in close collaboration with the introduction of schools .
When the corona measures are relaxed
If the corona measures are relaxed after 20 May, we will examine which forms of education and exams can be given again at the location(s) within the then applicable guidelines. In first instance, priority is given to practical education and assessment. This way, the opportunities are utilized to catch up on lessons and exams that are currently not possible due to the closure of our buildings.
