Starting from the coming academic year, students with an economic bachelor's degree will be able to obtain their Master of Arts in Management from Saxion in one year of full-time study. Those who study part-time can do this in two years. No work experience or pre-master is required. That is new.

Bas Jansen, the course director for the Saxion Hospitality Business School master's programme explains: "Saxion has been offering students an MBA/MA-master's programme in the economic domain for over twenty years. Until now you were eligible to start the Master of Business Administration programme with two years of work experience and eligible for a Master of Arts in Management with one year of work experience. Something has changed with the last case. Starting this year, the University of Greenwich, with whom Saxion collaborates for this master's programme, has relaxed the requirement that students must have at least one year of work experience. This opens the door for students from Saxion and elsewhere who have a university diploma. From now on, they can gain an MA in one year.

The collaboration between Saxion and the renowned University of Greenwich offers students the opportunity to study at Saxion, while following the British master's programme. In this way, students can attain an internationally recognised diploma from the University of Greenwich at Saxion in the Netherlands and also become an alumnus of that institute.

Who knows, in this special era, newly graduated university students may choose to wait a little longer before taking their first steps on the labour market. Instead they can complete their master's in just one year. It's a unique chance, since they don't need to have a pre-master.

Attaining a Master's degree in corona-times.

Bas: “Students who have completed a university education with an economic profile can now enroll for the master's degree programme. Who knows, in this special era, newly graduated university students may choose to wait a little longer before taking their first steps on the labour market. Instead they can complete their master's in just one year. It's a unique chance, since they don't need to have a pre-master. For them, it's an investment in themselves and the future. This diploma will give students a solid start in the labour market and extra career opportunities in the long term.

The only university of applied sciences in the Netherlands

Saxion is the only university of applied sciences in the Netherlands to offer a Master of Arts in Management from the University of Greenwich. This programme not only attracts Dutch students but also the necessary international students, Bas explains: "In the coming academic year, due to the coronavirus, we will be offering our master's programme almost entirely online, supplemented by a few possible physical contact sessions. Participants will soon make up part of an international group of students. That provides an interesting blend of nationalities, cultures and perspectives to the course content. In addition, we also combine MBA and MA students in our education, so that sufficient practical experience can also be brought into the classroom. That makes this master's programme interesting. In the coming years, we will be more strongly adding our own Saxion profile to the program, with a focus on technology, entrepreneurship and sustainability. We will also be building even more connections with the regional labour market.

That we offer this Master's is perhaps Saxion's best kept secret. It is time for even more students to take advantage of this.

Saxion's best kept secret

The one year MA programme has an economic profile, just as the MBA variant does for which 2 years of work experience is required. Classes are oriented towards HRM, business management studies, corporate entrepreneurship and financial-economic topics. Students also work on personal leadership. They learn how to deal with challenges in business, for example in the fields of technological innovation and sustainability. "The programme is theoretical and strategic, but also offers a practical and applied approach that suits Saxion as a University of Applied Sciences,” Bas concludes. "That we offer this Master's is perhaps Saxion's best kept secret. "It is time for even more students to take advantage of this.”
