Interreg Smart Solution Labs project is finalist for Grensland Award
The annual Grensland Conference focuses on cross-border cooperation in the border region between the Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia. The fifth edition in 2023 saw more than 500 participants come to Nijmegen to exchange knowledge and to network. A number of Saxion colleagues were also present to help strengthen euregional cooperation.
A regular feature of the conference is the presentation of the Grensland Award. This prize gives recognition to initiatives that make an exceptional contribution to Dutch-German cooperation. This is because, according to the jury: innovative projects that strengthen and maintain ties between these neighbouring countries deserve extra attention.
The Interreg project "Smart Solution Labs" (SSL) was one of the finalists for the prize. Saxion is the only Dutch higher education partner to participate in the project. Even though SSL did not win the Grensland Award, the nomination alone is a great honour and recognition of the great work done by students and project partners.
About Smart Solution Labs
Students from Saxion, Westfälische Hochschule Bocholt and FH Münster work together in interdisciplinary teams. In so-called Smart Labs, they get to grips with solving issues including technical ones, faced by Dutch and German companies in the Euregio. They spend 8 weeks devising a real solution or for example, developing a prototype.
The Interreg project is a collaboration between the Wirtschaftsförderung für den Kreis Borken (WFG), Verenigde Maakindustrie Oost (VMO) and the three universities of applied sciences.
