Professor Abeje Mersha may join as Fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering
As a Fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering, Abeje may join a select group of distinguished professionals who stand out for their excellence in the engineering field, the high impact of their work and their inspiring leadership in the context of the important societal transitions facing the Netherlands and the world.
His appointment is a tangible recognition of this, extra special is the fact that Abeje, together with Somaya Ben Allouch (also a former Saxion professor, now working at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam), are the only two out of sixty-two working in the hbo. Fellows share their knowledge and skills through the NAE forum, translate insights into practical, concrete advice and work to remove obstacles.
NAE membership is considered equal to prestigious memberships at National Academies of Engineering in other countries. On Monday 13 November, Abeje will be inaugurated at the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague.
Abeje himself on his joining: "Naturally, I am extremely happy to have been appointed as a fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering. It is an honour to be part of leading and influential experts in the field of engineering from academia and industry who make a significant contribution to sustainable social change through technological innovation. I consider this fellowship a valuable recognition of what we do at Saxion with a team of researchers, teachers, students and partners from industry.”
Anka Mulder, president of the Executive Board congratulates Abeje on being appointed a fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering. "A fantastic achievement, a sign of recognition for Abeje personally and for the relevance of higher education research. Abeje, Saxion is very proud of you!"
