Jasper Rekers no longer working at Saxion

Reading time Minutes

Saxion and lecturer Jasper Rekers have agreed that Rekers shall stop his work at the university with immediate effect and that the employment contract has come to an end. It is mutually agreed that the actions of the lecturer have led to a complex work situation that is no longer tenable.

The lecturer came into disrepute at the end of October after investigation by ANP showed that during the corona crisis (2020 -2022), he treated several politicians unfairly via an anonymous account on Twitter. The ANP investigation focused on the social media behaviour of candidates for the Tweede Kamer (second chamber of parliament). Rekers had put himself forward as candidate for the Boeren Burger Beweging and is placed thirteen on their electoral list.

Saxion has already stated that it is shocked by what happened and that it strongly disapproves of these statements. The position of lecturer means having an exemplary role and, as an educational institution, we take our responsibility towards our students very seriously and these statements do not correspond with this. As disciplinary measure lecturer Jasper Rekers was already suspended.

During his time as lecturer at Saxion these anonymous statements had gone unnoticed and Jasper Rekers had always performed well.
