Electric Superbike Twente wins ‘Rookie of the Year’ award

Reading time Minutes

At the international MotoStudent competition in Aragón, Spain, Electric Superbike Twente has been named Rookie of the Year. Congratulations!

In their very first participation in this global student racing event, the team from the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences finished 13th out of 49 teams.

Mirage-EVO

The students competed with their fully self-designed and self-built electric racing motorcycle, the Mirage-EVO. During the event, the bike’s performance was tested on speed, agility and battery endurance. Based on these tests, Electric Superbike Twente qualified for 12th place on the starting grid of the final race. After an intense battle for sixth place, the team was forced to retire in the last lap due to a loose contact point in the motor. Nevertheless, the team looks back with pride: their main goal, winning the Rookie of the Year title, was achieved.

MotoStudent

The MotoStudent International Competition, organized by the Moto Engineering Foundation and TechnoPark MotorLand, challenges student teams from universities around the world to design, develop and build a real racing motorcycle. Each prototype is tested and evaluated on the FIM-certified MotorLand Aragón circuit. The competition consists of two categories – petrol and electric – and focuses on innovation, teamwork and applied technical craftsmanship. Students get the opportunity to translate their theoretical knowledge into practice and compete with some of the top technical universities worldwide.

Proud moment

As the first Dutch team ever to participate in MotoStudent, Electric Superbike Twente shows what 20 motivated students can accomplish in a single academic year. With the Mirage-EVO, they created a powerful and sustainable electric motorcycle that showcases the potential of clean mobility in motorsport. The team renews itself every year: a new group of students takes over and continues building toward the goal of making the future of racing more sustainable.
