Solar Team Twente finishes in second place after an eventful final day
The fifth and final day of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025 proved to be just as thrilling as the days before. The race, which began on 24 August, concluded today for Solar Team Twente at the finish line in Adelaide. The team gave it their all, overcame several challenges, and secured an impressive second place in the Challenger Class.
Strong start to the day
The day began with an exciting moment as the Twente team overtook Belgium’s Innoptus Solar Team early on, while they were still charging at the roadside. This early move put Solar Team Twente back into second place. As the day progressed, they gradually closed the gap with frontrunner Brunel Solar Team.
Suspenseful until the very end
The distance to the frontrunner continued to shrink, until Solar Team Twente was just 500 meters behind Brunel. With the leading car in sight, excitement and tension surged within the team. But just like on day 4, a characteristic Australian rain shower swept across the route. In these conditions, Brunel managed to pull ahead once more and ultimately crossed the finish line in Adelaide first.
A constant battle in the top 3
This year’s edition of the challenge was defined by a continuous neck-and-neck race between the top teams from Delft, Leuven, and Twente. At nearly every checkpoint, the teams encountered each other, resulting in intense and at times literally shoulder-to-shoulder moments. Solar Team Twente congratulates the other teams and expresses its appreciation for their dedication and spirit, as well as for the organization of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025.
Proud of the result
Daniel Blik, team manager shared: “The team is incredibly proud of this second-place finish. Everyone gave their all and stayed sharp right up to the final moment. We truly got everything out of it, and that feels great. The fact that it’s not first place doesn’t matter. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together. We wholeheartedly congratulate Brunel Solar Team; they held their lead for a long time and clearly demonstrated their skill.”
