Saxion Mental Health Week
Mental health is an important aspect of student life. This is why Saxion focuses on student well-being, support and appropriate guidance throughout the year. This topic will be getting even more attention during Mental Health Week, from 1 to 7 June.
Studying brings many opportunities and new experiences, but can sometimes be challenging too. You may be feeling stressed, under pressure to perform, or finding it difficult to balance your studies with work, caring responsibilities or other personal circumstances. This is precisely why Saxion is committed to providing ongoing support for students.
During Mental Health Week 2026, extra attention will be paid to mental health and support at Saxion in a variety of ways. Students will be handing out postcards bearing a positive message in Enschede (2 June, 11:15 – 13:00), Apeldoorn (2 June, 09:30 - 11:00 at K1.16) and Deventer (3 June, 11:00 – 13:00). Of course, you can also put your own message on the card and pass it on to someone else. In Apeldoorn, you can find these postcards in the Lounge.
Support through the Student Support Centre
Are you struggling with something or do you need support? In that case, please contact the Saxion Student Support Centre. For example, if you’re feeling stressed, not feeling yourself, or need support due to personal circumstances such as ADHD, dyslexia or informal care duties.
On SaxHelpt, you can find information about guidance, personal support and practical help relating to your studies and well-being. Saxion also refers students to external organisations and initiatives whenever appropriate, such as ‘In je Bol’ and ‘Jongerencafé Deventer’.
More attention for young informal carers
The same week also happens to be Young Carers Week. This is why Saxion is calling for extra support for students who, alongside their studies, care for a family member, friend or housemate with an illness or disability.
Do you have caring responsibilities alongside your studies? In that case, you can request support from Saxion under the Student Carer Scheme. Saxion wants to help you find a better balance between studying and your private responsibilities.
You can find more information in Dutch at the Student Carer Scheme.
Relaxing and meeting Hoppus the dog
Even after Mental Health Week, Saxion will continue to focus on well-being and relaxation. On Thursday 11 June, Hoppus the dog will be visiting Saxion Enschede, accompanied by guardian Mirjam Koehorst. You’re welcome to pop in for a quick break, a chat or to find out more about the support services provided by the Student Support Centre.
Staff from the Student Support Centre will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and help you further.
Hoppus will be present from 12:00 to 13:00 and from 13:30 to 14:30. Location: the orange waiting area at S1.27 in Enschede.
