Podiatry
The key area of Podiatry makes a recognised contribution to the training of podiatrists and the development of the professional field. Together we work on innovations and substantiation of podiatric practice. The focus is on prevention and personalised care in an interdisciplinary context, with technology deployment being a common thread.
The key area consists of researchers affiliated with the podiatry study programmes at Saxion and Fontys and is supported by the Dutch Association of Podiatrists. This unique collaboration boosts the quality of education and the further professionalisation of practitioners. Our contribution to education is tangible in three areas.
1. Innovation in professional practice
Setting up and conducting applied research to further innovations in professional practice. Providing support in the further professionalisation of practitioners.
2. Providing a quality impulse to education
Innovating education based on the results of applied research. Facilitating students in contributing to applied research.
3. Knowledge development and sharing
Publishing and presenting applied research.
Lines of research
Podiatry is a relatively young paramedical profession that is still developing rapidly. This requires specific podiatric knowledge on different disorders and target groups. Podiatric care standards are developed for these disorders and target groups based on available evidence.
Transparency of the outcomes of podiatric treatment is important in order to organise the right prevention and care in time. Research is done to establish the best ways to systematically evaluate the outcomes of podiatric treatment for specific complaints and groups.
The theme of technological innovation involves working on innovation and support of podiatric treatments and evaluation of care, as well as supporting patients in self-management and supporting multi or interdisciplinary collaboration and organisation of care.
