The industry

Financial talents are in high demand all over the world, in a wide diversity of sectors and organizations: within retail, manufacturing and healthcare as well as banks and accountancy firms. In the past it was sufficient to have financial acumen, but knowledge alone is not enough in today’s market. In addition to financial expertise, your future employer will also expect you to have strong communication skills which you put into practice in the various layers of the organization, to be able to translate financial objectives into concrete action plans. You will shape your own vision and motivate others to support you. In other words: you will be the linchpin in business-related decisions.

One-year or two-year programme

The Short Degree Programme (SDP) of International Finance & Accounting normally lasts two years (120 credits). In addition to the two-year programme, we also offer a one-year programme (at least 60 credits) for students from our partner Universities. Upon successful completion of one of these programmes, you obtain the title Bachelor of Science.

First year

In the first year of the programme we work primarily on the intermediate knowledge, which you will need as a financial specialist. We will teach you to look at economic relations, financial markets, currency markets, ethics, governance and laws, all from an international perspective. Subjects such as financial management, management accounting and marketing will make sure that your level of general economic knowledge is raised as well. Furthermore, we give you the chance to improve your English language and research skills.

Second year

In the second year you will get a more profound knowledge in the subjects of accounting information systems (AIS), auditing, management information systems and risk management. The programme will be completed by a Research and Advisory Report (15 ECTS), which should prove that you are able to complete a research project and defend it.

First of all, our general entry requirements apply. Next to that, to join this programme, the following requirements are necessary:

  • 3-years bachelor level education in a related programme, with (at least) basic courses in the field of financial & management accounting, finance, management/marketing, computer skills and economics.
  • Minimum of TOEFL 550, IELTS 6 or similar English language qualification.
  • An official subject description of all relevant courses in the field of accounting and finance which you have completed at your home university or college. Subject descriptions should include information about the content of the course, literature and study load.

Upon graduation, you will receive the title of Bachelor of Science, a vast degree title, which is internationally recognized and will give you a valuable head start on the international labour market: as a policy advisor for the European Union, at a bank in Hamburg, London or Paris or a financial specialist in a multinational company. These are just some positions that you could hold in the future, whether in the Netherlands, your home country or elsewhere.

Would you like to continue studying? That is possible too. You are welcome to do your Masters’ in Business Administration or Finance and Accounting at almost every university in and outside Europe.

Amy Nguyen

Student Amy NguyenMy name is Amy Nguyen, a student from Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam. After completing my programme in 2,5 years, I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship for a 6-months exchange at Saxion.

At the moment, I am enrolled in the International Finance and Accounting Short Degree Programme. I decided to study in the Netherlands, because of the international and multicultural environment that would provide me with many opportunities to connect with students not only from Europe, but also from other parts of world. Saxion encourages interactive and open relationships between students and lecturers, which provides us as students with a strong support system.

I highly recommend studying a degree at Saxion and taking full advantage of getting an internationally recognised degree, in an environment in which you can grow, discover and develop your talents.
