“The future of fashion is materials,” predicts trendwatcher Lidewij Edelkoort. And that’s exactly how Saxion’s bachelor degree in Fashion and Textile Technologies (FTT) sets itself apart from other textile and fashion courses! Our teaching staff of professionals from the fashion and textile industry, each of them passionate about materials, will give you a firm foundation for stimulating and rewarding roles in this international sector.

The Fashion and Textile Technologies degree programme

At the end of the Fashion and Textile Technologies degree you will be a textile expert (with a Bachelor of Science qualification), with a keen eye for sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). You will learn all about textile materials, innovative production methods, putting together a collection, purchasing, selling and other aspects of business.

With your knowledge of products and materials you will crucially bridge the gap between designers, production and the market, forming the linchpin of the organisation. For interior designers or fashion designers, your specific knowledge and input will be indispensable. That’s what we call ‘co-creation’.

What will you learn?

The Bachelor of Science in Fashion and Textile Technologies offers you plenty of scope to discover and further develop your own talents, be they technical, creative or commercial ones. The degree programme starts by giving you a broad understanding of all the ins and outs of textiles. You subsequently sharpen your focus through your choice of minor, internship, Living Technology project and graduation assignment. Hence you can create your own portfolio, based on the following:

  • Materials: materials and production (technical)
  • Collections: product development and creating collections (creative)
  • Buying: business and market development (commercial)

Needless to say, if you’re an all-rounder with a broad range of interests you can also make crossovers. Whatever you choose, textile materials form the common thread running through this textile and fashion degree programme. Thanks to the knowledge you gain, many companies in the textile and fashion industry, both at home and abroad, will welcome you with open arms.
