The European Project Semester (EPS) a semester course designed to train third and fourth year Engineering / Life Science students in project work.  The teams, with each 4-7 students, are built up on a multicultural and multidisciplinary basis.

The programme is:

  • a combination of project work and courses
  • international, multidisciplinary and multicultural
  • in English
  • addressing the real needs of companies
  • worth 30 ECTS credits

Why should you take part?

The EPS will enable you to apply the technical knowledge acquired during the previous years of your engineering or life science education to real and practical projects. The programme also offers you the opportunity to learn to work in teams in an international, multicultural and interdisciplinary environment similar to what you will find in most companies today.

Without doubt, the EPS will make a significant difference to your academic curriculum. It will enable you to join the job market more successfully and it will help you to enhance your career.
This programme has been designed to satisfy society’s new demands and to train students in a broader range of disciplines, such as intercultural communication, teamwork skills, critical thinking and languages. The aim of EPS is to form students capable of dealing with frequent and unexpected changes and to develop the skills required for working internationally.

The European Project Semester (EPS) has two complementary parts:

  1. A project: during the semester, an international team of three to six students work on actual and relevant assignments for and with the industry. The teams are made up of students with different academic backgrounds and is under the guidance of a supervising tutor and specialist. Practical workshops are also included in the project. These focus on project management, personal professional development and team building.
  2. Courses: an short intensive programme consisting of courses is offered next to the project and workshops. The courses will help the student to develop communication, language and cooperation skills.

The EPS programme consists of the following

  • The Living Technology Project including workshops in Project Management and Personal Professional Development (24 ECTS).
  • Courses:
    o Intercultural Awareness (3 ECTS)
    o Academic Writing (3 ECTS)

In addition to academic activities the programme also includes cultural and social activities.

Third and fourth year students in the field of engineering or life science can apply for EPS. Your level of English should be at least B2.

Before registration you need to apply and get approval from the EPS contact person at Saxion UAS first. The application form can be found under "downloads", on the right side of this page.

Please send your application to the exchange coordinator at your home university including:

  • Application form
  • CV (including fields of study, IT-skills, working experience)
  • Transcript of Records

He or she will send your application to the EPS contact person at Saxion UAS.

The application deadline is 1 November for the spring semester and 1 May for the fall semester.

When?

EPS at Saxion is offered during the fall and spring semester.

Fall semester: September – December
Spring semester: February – June

Where?

EPS is offered at Saxion’s location in Enschede, the Netherlands.

Tuition fees

As an (Erasmus) exchange student you do not have to pay tuition fees to Saxion University of Applied Sciences, but you will continue to pay tuition fees to your home institution. Your university has to be an exchange partner of Saxion before you can apply for an exchange semester. The International Office at your university will know if there is an agreement in place with Saxion.

Entry requirements

  • You have completed 2 years of a Bachelor Degree in the field of Engineering and/or Life Science
  • English level B2.

How to apply?

Students applying to take the European Project Semester (EPS) should ensure that their home university recognises the EPS as a part of its curriculum. The semester is a recognized 30-credit unit course in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
