Wet Spinning
The Circular Textile Lab in Twente supports innovation in textile recycling and strengthens the region’s position as a leading hub for circular textiles. As part of the Regio Deal Circular Textiles Twente, Saxion collaborates with partners such as Twente Milieu, Frankenhuis, SaXcell, and Enschede Textielstad to develop and test sustainable materials and circular production chains.
A major milestone is the installation of a wet spinning pilot line at Saxion in 2023, enabling advanced research into chemical recycling. In collaboration with SaXcell, the lab focuses on converting waste cotton into new fibres using the Lyocell process, a highly sustainable method with up to 99% solvent recovery.
The flexible pilot line allows small-scale production and experimentation with different materials, supporting the development and optimization of circular textile solutions and exploring applications beyond textiles, such as medical materials.
The project is funded by the Dutch Regio Deal Circular Textiles Twente. Project contacts are Dr. Anke ten Berge and Robin Temmink.
