Understanding the basics is no longer enough in today's fast-paced, global society. Continuous innovation has companies striving to outdo one another and win by remaining relevant in the market. It is therefore essential to keep an eye on the market and on technological innovations, and to keep innovating. In this term, students are encouraged to be innovative where it matters: textile materials.  Gijs van Wulfen's FORTH innovation method will take us on an expedition into the unknown, because innovation means 'doing things really differently' or 'doing really different things'. But, if you are not sure what that entails, how do you find out? By going through the following steps: go, discover, develop, reflect and return. In this term, you will go through an abridged version of this process. You will focus on finding the most relevant innovations and developments for your product. The main objective is to successfully renew your product at a material level! Roles: Each role is linked to a theme. To find more information on this, see below.
(2) User and Practices = product managers. Product managers look at the different elements being used, and the impact of the user.
(1) Recovery = sustainability managers. Sustainability managers look at a product's recycling/reuse options after being used.
(2) Design & Concept = design managers. Design managers look at design aspects that can be incorporated by the designer. They do this for the product's entire life cycle.
(2) Production & Materials = material managers. Material managers look at raw materials and, in particular, eco-friendly materials. They also look at production, in terms of ethical manufacturing and streamlining processes.
(1) Transport & Retail = managing directors. Managing directors look at logistics and oversee processes such shipping and service concepts. They assume responsibility for group processes and are the decision-maker in cases of dispute. The managing director must upload the double paper to Blackboard before 12:00 pm on Wednesdays. The entire group will discuss the paper during Show & Checks on Thursdays.
