Update 17: Internship, graduation, Binding Study Advice (BSA) and schedule term 4
During this corona crisis, we are trying to ensure that teaching and assessments continue as much as possible online or remotely. This also goes for assessing practical aspects of education.
Have you had to suspend or end your internship or graduation due to the corona crisis, because for example you had to return from abroad prematurely or because your internship company can no longer offer supervision or is closed entirely? Or are you unable to start your internship or graduation? Then we will see if you can still complete this part of the programme with the help of an (alternative) assessment.
There are two possibilities:
- The assessment will go ahead in its original form
If you are able to complete your assignment for example using a form of communication from home, the assessment will go ahead. - The assessment will take place in its original form, with a modified assignment
It is possible that the circumstances in which you should make the assessed assignment are no longer available. For example, because you can no longer complete the mandatory practice hours or days. In that event you can do a custom assignment to pass your assessment. For this you have to make an alternative, realistic plan together with your supervisor.
Such an alternative may also apply in the coming terms to practical education where it is not yet clear whether this can continue as normal.
Resumption of interrupted internships or graduations
We realize that some internships or graduation assignments cannot be completed online or remotely. Because the government has called this week to address long-term corona restrictions, including after April 28, we decided that after April 14 it is possible to resume an interrupted internship or graduation physically at the workplace of the internship or graduation company. Please note: this applies if the completion of the assignment or internship is really not possible online or in an alternative manner. The internship or graduation company must of course adhere to the corona guidelines.
Consult your supervisor
Are you unsure what applies to you: an alternative test or resumption of your internship? Please contact your supervisor after Easter (i.e. from Tuesday 14 April) to discuss what is best for you and how you can do this. If you opt for an alternative assignment, then this will be defined and approved in close alignment between you, your supervisor and, if necessary, in consultation with the Examination Board.
Alternative for requirements to go abroad
On a number of programmes, it is compulsory to complete (a) semester(s) abroad. We asked these study programmes to give the education and the assessments(s) associated with this semester an internationally oriented or intercultural interpretation. In this way you can still explicitly involve 'abroad' in your assignment: internationalisation at home. If you complete this assessment with a sufficient grade, this will replace the requirement to go abroad.
Binding study advice (bsa)
Teachers endeavour to provide online education and students to follow it. We are proud to see just how quickly and how well we have all made an effort to achieve this. All these efforts aim to prevent study delays due to the corona crisis. Unfortunately, study delays cannot always be completely prevented. We will take into account that this academic year you may not be able to obtain sufficient credits (in time) for a positive study advice.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has advised universities of applied sciences to postpone negative binding study advice for first-year students with insufficient credits until next academic year and leave the implementation of this to the institution. The Executive Board has decided that:
- Students who started in September 2019 and who meet the BSA standard at the end of this current academic year 2019-2020 will receive a positive study advice.
- For students who started in September 2019 and who do not meet the BSA standard at the end of this current academic year 2019-2020, the BSA will be postponed to their second year of enrolment. By the end of the 2020-2021 academic year at the latest, these students will still be eligible for a BSA if they have not yet met the BSA standard that applies for the second year of enrolment.
A procedure is currently being drawn up for students who started in the 2018-2019 academic year and whose study advice has been postponed for a year, they will receive more information about this later this month.
Timetable term 4
The schedule of term 4 will be published no later than Friday 17 April. Due to the current situation, this is a week later than usual. We took the load capacity of lecturers and students in the coming period in account while making the schedule. The schedules are published in the standard way.
Students of the International Business School are separately informed about their class schedule term 4, which starts on 20 April.
