Update 3: News about the coronavirus

Reading time Minutes

With this message, we inform you about the current state of affairs regarding the coronavirus and the implications for Saxion. The health of the students and staff members is of paramount importance to us. We understand that there are concerns and questions. Through these updates and the FAQs, we try to provide you answers as best we can. Saxion will follow the guidelines issued by the RIVM and GGD (Municipal Health Service) to the extent possible.

Events

The Executive Board has decided that, for the time being, the open days will take place as planned, as long as the RIVM guidelines allow this.

Due to the developments concerning the corinavirus and therefore the increasing amount of cancellations Saxion has decided to cancel next week's International Week programme.

Travelling

Due to the developments concerning the coronavirus, Saxion is asking its students and staff members to seriously consider whether a trip is necessary. We discourage all non-essential travel. Does a conference abroad still have any added value, for example, if many of the guests decide not to come? Should you still want to go, then discuss this with your supervisor or school.

Is it okay for me to come to Saxion?

Yes, there are no general reasons not to come. Nevertheless, as a student or staff member, you may be in doubt whether or not you should come to Saxion due to personal reasons, for example if you have flu symptoms or if you have room-mates or with such symptoms. Are you in doubt about this? As a staff member, you should contact your supervisor and discuss how to proceed. Are you a student? Then contact the front office of your school (via telephone or e-mail) and consult with them.

Do you live in Noord-Brabant?

The RIVM advises residents of the province of Noord-Brabant to limit their social contacts if they have a cold, a fever and/or are coughing. They are advised to stay home. This advice also applies to Saxion students and staff members who come from Noord-Brabant.

Suspect that you are infected? Or are you being tested?

If your doctor or the GGD suspect that you are infected and decide to have you tested for the virus, then, as a student, contact the front office of your school (via telephone or e-mail) or, as a staff member, follow the standard sickness protocol.

What steps can you take yourself?

Just like with any other virus such as the flu and colds, the same applies to coronavirus: pay attention to your personal hygiene! Do you want to know what good hygiene is? Check these tips.

Hand washing instructions, based on guidelines issued by the RIVM, have been posted in the Saxion buildings. The towels in the toilets will be replaced more frequently as of today. The most important measures that you can take yourself are:

  • Wash your hands regularly (check how to do that correctly here)

  • Cough and sneeze into the fold of your elbow

  • Use paper tissues

  • No hand-shaking

We ask our students and staff members to take responsibility, to help each other and to address each other on the subject where necessary.

RIVM and Dutch government information

The Dutch government has opened a general telephone line (0800-1351) for questions. Saxion follows the advice and guidelines of the RIVM. Visit this page for more information. The Dutch government has also set up a page especially for education

FAQ

We find it important that students and employees are well informed about the coronavirus: what is the current status? Wat should you do? What do you need to avoid? And what is Saxion doing?  For all these questions, and others, please refer to our FAQ.
