Update 22 – Reopening up to 15 June and Meet & Greet
Tuesday 19 May, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge outlined the further relaxation of the corona measures in the Netherlands. Higher education was also explicitly discussed. Although a large part of our education and research continues to take place online, we are pleased that we are allowed to open our buildings again to a limited extent. We do this in accordance with the previously published infographic: "Roadmap for phased opening of Saxion buildings".
Anka Mulder, President of the Executive Board: " Now that we are gradually reopening we will, regretfully, have to set priorities. The most important aspect regarding the reopening is the prevention of study completion delay. Practical exams and graduation will be given highest priority. Next in line is practical education. Study progress is what counts most! We are making every effort in support of this and will be making use of every opportunity we can get to achieve this."
From 1 June: Limited (practical)exams on location
Saxion is currently working hard on a safe phased opening. From 1 June, space will be made for some (practical) exams (examinations) in the Saxion buildings, whereby the physical presence of the student is necessary. A clear procedure has been made for these (practical) exams. Students who have scheduled a (practical) exam will receive this procedure and information about the rules of contact in our buildings by email. Students can see in their (exam) timetable when they have an exam and whether this will take place online or in the building physically.
Roadmap for the period until 15 June
The limited reopening of our buildings for practical education and graduation will take place as from 15 June. At the moment, the schools are looking into how to allocate the available space. Students who are affected by this will also receive more information about this by email. In addition, activities in the field of research will also be facilitated to a limited extent. Finally, we are working in small scale pilot projects to test which other forms of education are possible. By doing so, we hope to be able to make effective and efficient choices about opening our buildings to more forms of education and research. As soon as there is more information, you will read it in an upcoming next update.

Meet & Greet for first-years students
For many international students, the Meet & Greets are online already. A Meet & Greet can actually be seen as an introduction, where prospective first-year students can ask all their questions about, for example, books, timetables and subjects. In order to give all students the opportunity to meet their future fellow students and our teachers, we now also offer the Meet & Greet online.
Especially at this time, it is very important to us to give our first-year students a warm welcome to Saxion. We hope that the Meet & Greet contributes to this. Participation is not mandatory, but we strongly recommend it. Besides that it can be informative, it can also be a lot of fun to meet your future fellow students and get to know your future teachers. Almost every study programme offers a Meet & Greet. First-year students who register before 1 June will receive an invitation by email. Would you like to know if your preferred course also offers a Meet & Greet? Then check the programme pages via saxion.edu.
Questions regarding finance
DUO has announced that it will come with a number of measures to compensate students during this difficult time. As a result, the FAQ has been supplemented for both Dutch and international students. You will find the link under each update, if there are any changes on any topic we will try to supplement them. So check them regularly!
