14-10-2020 Corona-update: Face mask advice becomes obligation

Reading time Minutes

On Tuesday, October 13, the government announced stricter measures in the fight against the corona virus for the next two weeks. For example, in secondary and higher education institutions (vo, mbo and ho) everyone must wear a face mask outside of class. The previously announced measures remain unchanged. In this update you can read what this means.

Mandatory wearing of a face mask

Wearing a face mask is going to become mandatory at Saxion. As previously communicated, the advice thus becomes an obligation. This obligation does not apply in class or in an office. Of course students and employees are free to wear a face mask there as well. The obligation to wear a face mask does apply in all other "public" areas in our Saxion buildings. These are the spaces in which you can walk and move from one place to another: the corridors, stairwells, and so on. Talk to each other about this if you see that that is not happening. In some (practical) classes it already was mandatory to wear a face mask in class, which remains unchanged unless indicated otherwise by the teacher.

Other unchanged measures

On September 30, we shared a number of measures via MijnSaxion. These measures remain unchanged. We will list them briefly:

  • Work and study from home is the norm
The mix of online education and on-site education remains possible within the limited space available for this on the basis of the guidelines from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and guidelines that apply to public transport. This means that timetables will not change. If presence is required on location in the interests of education, then you can still come. Otherwise, working and studying at home is the norm. We request that you only go to the scheduled activity. Don’t come any earlier and leave the building immediately after your lesson(s) or assessment(s).

  • Travelling by public transport
If you have to go to one of the Saxion buildings for educational activities, such as lessons and/or assessments, or activities in the interests of education, then you can do so by public transport. This also applies to educational activities at external locations. You can also go there by public transport.
  • Maximum group size
The stricter rule of a maximum group size of 30 people does not apply to educational activities. Not even for educational activities taking place at external locations.
  • Graduation ceremonies
Graduation ceremonies are related to education. In connection with the travel movements and contact moments that this entails, we are looking at which ones can continue in the coming weeks You will receive information about this from your school as soon as possible.
  • Internship
Are you doing an internship? Then you follow the rules of the professional group where you are doing the internship. Is the norm at the company to work from home, then you will do so too.
  • Catering
Catering will remain available within Saxion buildings between 10.00 and 14.00 hours for take-away. You can consume your meal at the designated places in the canteen, respecting the 1.5 meters distance from each other.

Another update will follow when more information is available. Keep following MySaxion.
