Saxion to compensate tuition fees for Ukrainian students

Reading time Minutes

Saxion has decided to charge current and new Ukrainian students the statutory tuition fees instead of the currently higher institutional tuition fees in the academic year 2022-2023. This will be done in the form of compensation. This means that for the coming academic year Ukrainian students will pay the same tuition fees as their Dutch counterparts.

By doing so Saxion adheres to the previously made decision of the Dutch Association of Universities of Applied Sciences to lower tuition fees for Ukrainian students effectively.

Anka Mulder, President of the Executive Board: “I’m pleased that we, as university of applied sciences, made this decision. Due to the relatively large number of Ukrainian students, it is a significant investment for Saxion. However, the current situation in Ukraine has a major financial impact on students and it is important to us that we are able to support our current and new Ukrainian students in this way, so they can still study with us.”

What does this actually entail?

All Ukrainian students who are studying at Saxion in the academic year 2022–2023 are eligible for compensation. This includes Ukrainian students who are re-enrolling for their degree programme, as well as new Ukrainian students who will be starting at Saxion this coming academic year. This compensation is valid for one year. Students will be compensated the difference between the institutional tuition fees and the statutory tuition fees with money from the Ukraine Support Scholarship, a special fund set up for this purpose. This means that the coming academic year these students will pay be the same tuition fees as their Dutch counterparts. Lowering the fees will make it easier for Ukrainian students to pay for their study in the Netherlands.
