A sporting month: Saxion running in both Deventer and Enschede

Reading time Minutes

Runners in our region (and far beyond) can run to their heart’s content in April. There are two great running events on the calendar this month. Tomorrow more than 11,000 runners will be raring to go at the start line of the Enschede Marathon. And last Sunday it was the turn of participants in the IJsselloop running event. Saxion ran there and will be running again!

Forty enthusiastic employees dressed in Saxion green and encouraged by family and friends covered the 5, 10 or 15 kilometre versions of the IJsselloop in Deventer last Sunday. Many Saxion students also took part. Stadscampus De Kien sponsored the ‘student run’ for the first time with nine student teams competing against each other.

Most of all I really enjoyed running together with colleagues.

Fun together

Saxion President Anka Mulder also took part in Deventer. The course was not new to her, as someone who likes to don their running shoes and go for a jog along the IJssel. How did she experience taking part in the IJsselloop? “Most of all I really enjoyed running together with colleagues. Great to see so many ‘Saxions’ out there. Who knows maybe even more next year?!” she replies.

Enschede Marathon

While Deventer basks in the memory of a wonderful, sunny edition of the IJsselloop, runners in the Enschede Marathon are preparing for their big day tomorrow. Their adventure begins with a visit to Saxion, because again this year they will be picking up their starting number at the main Saxion location on the M.H. Tromplaan. Daphna Padberg (SaxEvents) talks about the collaboration with Stichting Marathon Enschede: “It all started years ago. On the marathon weekend, part of the building is set up as a registration office. During the event for example, organisers can make use of our showers and parking spaces.”

How does she feel as a Saxion employee, about being able to contribute to such a large and international running event? Daphna: “We’ve had a very good working relationship with the marathon organisers for years. I really like the fact that I can also contribute to it all through my work.”

‘Go for it!’

Ultimately, of course, for the participants it is all about covering the distance they registered for, the energy they get from the public and pushing their sporting boundaries. A team of 140 Saxion employees will be experiencing this tomorrow. Daphna would like to say something to her colleagues and students taking part in the Enschede Marathon tomorrow: “I wish everyone lots of luck and go for it!”
