Euregionale Doorlopende Leerlijn among three finalists for the Grensland Award 2025
Each year, the Grensland Award honors projects or initiatives that make an exceptional contribution to strengthening cooperation and coexistence between the Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. The educational project “Euregionale Doorlopende Leerlijn” (EDL) was one of the three finalists this year. Saxion is partner in this Interreg project.
The award is presented during the annual Grensland Conference, which took place in Sittard this year. Although EDL did not win the prize, the jury regards it as a model project and an innovative initiative that sustainably strengthens educational structures in the border region.
“The nomination as a finalist is an important recognition for us,” says Barbara Verbeek, EDL project manager. “This result is only possible thanks to the commitment and collaboration of our strong partner network on both sides of the border.”

About the EDL-project
EDL connects educational partners along the entire learning path—from primary schools to Universities of Applied Sciences—with companies, governments, and social organisations from both countries. The goal is to build one shared cross-border educational framework that optimally prepares young people for their future careers in the border region.
Saxion is responsible for the EDL Expertise Centre and for research into euregional competences. The Expertise Centre provides students and lecturers with teaching materials, advice and workshops on education in their neighbouring language. The Employability Transition Research Group is carrying out research into the profile of the ideal cross-border worker.
