AI-driven forensic investigation system nominated for Computable Awards 2025

Reading time Minutes

The AI-driven forensic investigation system of Saxion Research Group Technologies for Criminal Investigations (TCI) and the Police Academy has been nominated for the Computable Awards 2025. The Computable Awards are ‘the leading industry awards of the Dutch IT sector’.

What exactly is an AI-driven forensic investigation system? According to research group TCI, it is a platform that combines 3D reconstruction, gas detection and AI-driven scenario analysis in order to analyse crime scenes more quickly, accurately and safely. The system is portable, but can also be integrated on a remotely controlled robotic platform. This makes the system widely applicable, even at a crime scene in a dangerous environment.

Using artificial intelligence and computer vision the system can create 3D reconstructions, and so contribute to even greater precision in forensic investigations. At the same time, the system can provide a safer working environment for detectives, who, for example, thanks to the remotely controlled technology, can avoid coming into contact with toxic substances.

Top score

According to the Computable Awards selection committee, the nomination of the AI-driven forensic investigation system “is the result of a careful selection from hundreds of entries, assessed by a panel of Computable experts.” The nominated system received one of the highest scores in the 'Educational Project' category.

The Computable Awards is being held for the twentieth time in 2025. This anniversary edition, which has the theme ‘Rebooting Reality’, is taking place, according to the competition organisers, “in a world that is on edge. AI, disinformation, climate issues and (cyber)wars are forcing us to make new choices: what is real and what is not? How do we build a digital world that is safer, more human and more aware?”

The winners of the Computable Awards 2025 will be announced per category on November 18 at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht.
