Saxion reorganises to stay regionally relevant and decisive
Following its announcement on 29 September 2025, Saxion is now taking the next step by presenting a proposal to adjust its internal organisational structure. Saxion wants to streamline its internal organisational structure to be able to act more effectively as a key educational institution and knowledge partner in and for the region. The university is facing a decline in revenue due to a drop in student enrolment and reduced government funding. This means that Saxion, like many other higher education institutions, has to make cost-saving measures. By reorganising its main structure into fewer, larger units (both in terms of schools and service departments), Saxion hopes to improve how it manages and makes decisions. The changes will have no consequences for the current study and research programmes.
Inge Grimm, President of the Executive Board: “We are the educators and knowledge accelerators for the region. By streamlining our organisational structure, we aim to keep our broad portfolio of study programmes and applied research activities accessible. Our portfolio of study programmes is broad and our research groups are making their mark regionally, nationally and internationally!
By working with larger schools within Saxion in the future, we’ll strengthen collaboration across the board while also achieving efficiency in operations and staffing. These changes will understandably raise questions and concerns and Saxion is providing space within the organisation to address them.”
We currently have twelve schools and nine service departments in our main structure. The proposal is to move towards a structure with six schools and three service departments. A final decision on the proposal is expected in December. By streamlining its organisational structure, Saxion seeks to maintain high standards in education and research despite reduced funding. This way, Saxion will continue to be a strong university of applied sciences, both in and for the region, now and in the future.
