Saxion involved in archaeological investigation at Wolder Church on behalf of the Municipality of Maastricht

Reading time Minutes

On behalf of the Municipality of Maastricht, Saxion University of Applied Sciences and archaeological research agency BAAC are carrying out archaeological research into a grave, the associated finds and human remains discovered in the St Peter and St Paul Church in Maastricht (Wolder district).

The discovery of the skeleton in Wolder Church, which may belong to the famous musketeer d’Artagnan, has led to extensive archaeological research and attracted regional, national and international attention. The initial research findings provide both new insights and raise further questions. The true identity of the individual and the circumstances surrounding their death remain unclear for the time being. Further research is required to establish more clearly the identity of the individual buried in the grave.
